ATTRACTIONS
OUTSIDE OF THE PARK

   The surrounding towns of Chardon to the north, Aurora to the south, Kirtland and Chesterland to the west, Burton and Middlefield to the east are all within a 30 minute drive. Each town presents itself differently. Chardon is noted for its "Maple Festival". Aurora is where you will find "Geauga Lake Wildlife and Water Park" and the "Aurora Farms" outlet mall. Nestled in the rolling hills of Kirtland and Chesterland you can discover nature in the "Lake" and "Geauga" County Metro parks. Burton is home to the "Apple Butter Festival" and the historic "Century Village" on the square. Middlefield is "Amish Country" where you share the road with horse drawn buggies and can enjoy great Amish cooking. Listed below are just some of the local establishments and attractions in this diverse and interesting area.

MIDDLEFIELD

At the end of Springdale Avenue - 0.9 miles north of Walmart intersection traffic light .

The Middlefield Eagle Community park has a shelter, rest rooms, playground, and picnic areas. Its main attraction is a water park which has pulsing fountains, towers with dumping buckets, and wading pools. The park is open to the public and parking is available.





BURTON

The Geauga Historical Society maintains the Century Village Museum on the Square in Burton. Events are scheduled year round. The Racoon Music Festival is usually in June with the Antique Power Steam Show generally in July. In early October there is the Apple Butter Festival. Pancake breakfasts are on tap on the Sunday's in March and breakfast with Santa is usually in late November. Guided tours are scheduled from April 15th thru November 15th from 1-3 pm. Northeast of Burton on the Geauga County Fairgrounds.

The Geauga County Fair runs from the Thursday before Labor Day weekend thru Labor Day. The first Geauga County Fair was held on October, 1823 making it the oldest continuous county fair in the nation. It features agricultural and livestock displays, a variety of demonstrations, fair food, amusement rides, vendors, bands, dancers, and other performers. KIRTLAND

Penitentiary Glen Reservation is part of the Lake Metro Parks system. It has accessible facilities, a picnic area with grills, an All People's Trail, drinking water, restrooms, hiking trails, cross-country skiing, Nature Center, Wildlife Center, The Nature Store gift shop, and a bridle trail. On select dates throughout the summer months there are free live steam train rides available from 1-3 pm. If you desire more information please visit their website or call them at 440-256-1404.

Lake Farm Park is part of the Lake Metro Parks system. The Farmpark is a family oriented science and cultural center devoted to agriculture, farming, and country life. There are daily activities and demonstrations related to life on the farm. You can visit the Farmpark Gift Shop for unique gift ideas or enjoy lunch or a snack at the new J & J Cafe. Farmpark is open year round from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and an admission fee is charged. A detailed schedule of events can be obtained by visiting their website or calling 440-256-2122.

RUSSELL

The West Woods is a 902-acre park that protects the historic sandstone ledges of Ansel’s Cave, Silver Creek and its watershed, extensive wetlands, and mature forests. It is Geauga Park District’s intent to protect this natural area in perpetuity, and utilize the nature center to provide quality nature education. The facility is open daily 10 am - 5 pm. If you are looking to cool off and have a lot of fun while you're at it, look no further than Geauga Lake's Wild Water Kingdom. One of the premier water parks in Ohio, Wild Water Kingdom features favorites like Tidal Wave Bay and thrill rides like Liquid Lightning and Thunder Falls.
